God Designed Your Body to Heal — Here’s What’s Been Getting in the Way

You don’t have a genetic problem.

You have a processed food problem.

For years, we’ve been told that our health struggles are written in our DNA — that disease just “runs in the family.” But research shows that genetics account for only about 10% of chronic disease risk. The other 90%?

It’s lifestyle, environment, and what we feed our bodies.

God designed your body to heal itself — to detox, repair, and renew. But the modern food system keeps throwing off that divine design. Processed and ultra-processed foods don’t just make you tired and inflamed — they actually turn on disease genes that were meant to stay silent.

💥 The Alarming Truth About Processed Food and Disease

Let’s look at what science is showing:

  • Autoimmune disease rates are climbing 3–9% per year worldwide — and researchers blame the rise of the Western, ultra-processed diet.

  • People who eat the most ultra-processed food have a 17% higher risk of cardiovascular disease and significantly higher rates of autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and cancer (BMJ 2024).

  • The average American now gets 60% of daily calories from ultra-processed food (American Journal of Preventive Medicine).

  • Diets rich in refined oils, sugar, and additives are directly linked to inflammation, insulin resistance, gut permeability (“leaky gut”), and even early signs of neurological decline.

In other words, what’s on your plate might be flipping on disease pathways — one bite at a time.

⚗️ What Makes Processed Foods So Dangerous?

When you hear “processed,” think changed from God’s original design.

Food companies take something natural — like grain or fruit — and modify it with chemicals, preservatives, and high-heat processing to extend shelf life, enhance flavor, and hook your brain.

Here’s what happens when they do:

1.

They Strip Away Life

Processing removes the enzymes, fiber, and micronutrients your body relies on to digest, detox, and heal.

2.

They Add Addictive Chemicals

Manufacturers use a “bliss point” — a perfect mix of sugar, fat, and salt — that stimulates dopamine, your brain’s pleasure chemical. It literally rewires your brain to crave more.

3.

They Create Fake Food Molecules

High heat and chemical processing create compounds your body doesn’t recognize. The immune system attacks these “foreign invaders,” fueling inflammation and autoimmune reactions.

4.

They Feed the Wrong Microbes

Processed foods destroy healthy gut bacteria and feed yeast and pathogens. A disrupted gut means a weakened immune system — and most immune cells live in your gut!

5.

They Spike Blood Sugar & Hormones

Refined carbs and sugars send insulin soaring. Over time, this leads to insulin resistance, fatigue, mood swings, and weight gain.

🧠 What “Ultra-Processed” Really Means

Not all processed food is bad. Chopping vegetables, freezing fruit, or pressing olive oil are simple forms of processing. But ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are another story.

The NOVA classification defines UPFs as industrial formulations made mostly from substances extracted from foods (like oils, starches, proteins) or synthesized in labs (like colorings, flavorings, and preservatives).

Common examples include:

  • Breakfast cereals, chips, and granola bars

  • Flavored yogurts and protein bars

  • Frozen meals and fast-food sandwiches

  • Soda, energy drinks, and “zero sugar” products

  • Store-bought bread, pastries, and sauces

If the ingredient list has more than five ingredients, or includes words you can’t pronounce, it’s likely ultra-processed.

🌾 Why Gluten and Sugar Are Often Ultra-Processed

Even foods we think of as “simple” can be highly processed.

  • Modern gluten is often extracted, bleached, and chemically altered. It’s not the same wheat your grandparents ate. Unless you’ve milled your own grain or bought from a local source, it’s probably ultra-processed.

  • Processed sugar (like table sugar or high-fructose corn syrup) is stripped of minerals and fiber. That’s why it spikes blood sugar and causes inflammation.

  • The only truly natural sugars come from whole fruit, raw honey, or pure maple syrup — foods that still carry life, enzymes, and trace nutrients.

🙌 How to Start Eliminating Processed Foods (Even When You’re Busy)

Healing doesn’t have to mean perfection — it just means progress.

Here are simple ways to start:

1.

Start with one meal a day

Choose one meal — like breakfast — and make it 100% real food.

For example: scrambled eggs with spinach and avocado instead of cereal or toast.

2.

Batch-cook real meals

Cook once, eat twice. Roast veggies, grill chicken, or make soups that you can reheat later.

3.

Shop the perimeter

At the grocery store, stay around the edges — where you’ll find produce, meat, and dairy. The center aisles are where most ultra-processed foods hide.

4.

Read labels like a detective

If you see ingredients like maltodextrin, dextrose, natural flavors, gums, colorings, or hydrogenated oils, that’s your sign to skip it.

5.

Upgrade your sweeteners

Use fruit, raw honey, or maple syrup sparingly. Ditch artificial sweeteners and refined sugar.

6.

Eat foods you can visualize growing

If you can picture it coming from the earth, it’s likely good for you. If it comes from a factory, think twice.

🌿 God’s Design Hasn’t Changed

Your body is fearfully and wonderfully made.

It knows how to heal when you remove what’s blocking it.

Food was never meant to be complicated or engineered for addiction. It was meant to nourish, sustain, and connect you to creation. Every time you choose a God-made food over a man-made one, you’re not just eating healthier — you’re honoring His design for your healing.
