Written in the Stars? Why I Don’t Follow Natal Charts (and What the Bible Really Says)

You don’t have to look far to find someone talking about their natal chart, rising sign, or moon placement. It’s trendy, mystical, and honestly, and it can feel weirdly accurate.

I get it. You want to understand who you are.

You want clarity about your purpose, your wiring, your future.

You want language for the emotions and patterns you’ve always felt but couldn’t explain.

But as someone who’s been called out of confusion and into truth…

I have to say this plainly:

Just because something feels powerful… doesn’t mean it’s pure.

Where Do Natal Charts Come From?

Natal charts (also called birth charts) are used in astrology to map the position of the planets at the time of your birth. Practitioners use them to analyze your personality, emotions, life purpose, even your ideal romantic match.

Sounds harmless at first glance, right?

But this practice is rooted in divination…

something Scripture speaks directly and strongly about.

📖 “Let no one be found among you… who practices divination or interprets omens… Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.”

Deuteronomy 18:10–12

📖 “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:31

The issue isn’t that God hates self-discovery.

It’s that He knows we’re vulnerable to false light when we’re searching for truth outside of Him.

What Were the Stars Actually Made For?

God did create the stars—but not to define your personality or reveal your destiny.

📖 “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years.” —Genesis 1:14

The stars were created to mark time, not identity.

To point to God’s glory, not yours.

📖 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” —Psalm 19:1

📖 “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” —Psalm 147:4

Beautiful? Yes.

Powerful? Absolutely.

But never intended to replace the voice of the Holy Spirit.

So… Is It Wrong to Look?

I’m not here to shame anyone. I’ve had clients and friends who genuinely didn’t know any better. They were exploring astrology not because they wanted to rebel—but because they were hungry for meaning.

But here’s the sobering truth:

When you consult a chart instead of the Creator,

you’re opening the door to spiritual confusion.

You’re placing trust in something created, not the Creator.

And over time, it does shape your identity…just not in the way you think.

📖 “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help… but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.” —Isaiah 31:1

When we chase clarity outside of God, we can unknowingly start building our lives on counterfeits.

You’re Not Your Rising Sign—You’re Who God Says You Are

Your worth isn’t in the stars.

It’s in the scars.

The ones Jesus bore so you could live in full identity, full freedom, and full truth.

📖 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” —Jeremiah 1:5

📖 “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” —1 Peter 2:9

You don’t need a natal chart to know who you are.

You need the Word of God.

You need the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

You need the peace that comes from truth, not trends.

What If You’ve Already Dabbled?

You’re not too far gone.

You don’t have to be afraid.

But I do encourage you to pray and ask Him if there is anything that needs to be brought before Him and repented of.

📖 “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” —Jeremiah 29:13

📖 “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.” —John 16:13

You can ask the Lord to close every door that was opened, break agreement with false identity, and align your heart again with His truth. And He’ll do it with love, not shame.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been leaning on astrology or birth charts to understand yourself—pause. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what’s really going on beneath the surface. What are you craving? What are you afraid of? What haven’t you fully surrendered?

Your identity isn’t in your chart.

It’s in Christ.

And that’s the safest, most solid place you could ever root your life.

Devotional: Who Told You Who You Are?

When God asked Adam and Eve, “Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3:11), He wasn’t asking for information—He was asking them to reflect.

It’s a question still worth asking today:

Who told you who you are?

Was it your chart?

A quiz?

A coach?

An app?

Or was it the voice of the One who formed you, named you, and called you very good?

God’s design is not for you to guess who you are.

It’s to reveal it to you, moment by moment, in love.

You were never meant to consult the stars.

You were made to consult your Father

the One who knit you together,

the One who calls you His,

the One who never changes with the moon or Mercury.

Closing Prayer

Father, I repent for any way I’ve sought answers outside of You.

I release anything I’ve agreed with that does not align with Your truth.

I break every tie to confusion, divination, and false identity.

Wash me clean, Lord.

Fill every place of seeking with Your Spirit.

Help me root my identity in Christ—not in the stars, not in trends, not in personality tests or spiritual shortcuts.

Remind me that I don’t have to earn clarity—

You give it freely, in love.

Thank You for your patience with my wandering and Your kindness that always leads me back.

Help me hear Your voice more clearly than ever before.

I choose to believe You when You say I am loved, chosen, and created for good works.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
